La tassa del cafè del matí・朝のコーヒーマッグ

The morning coffee tax・朝のコーヒーマッグ

Ryo brought this mug from his parents' house when he moved into the apartment where we live. It is a small porcelain mug, made in Japan.

On the bottom, written in fine gold letters, is "Adam & Eve." Flowers and fruits dance all around the piece.

It’s not really my style, but it was already at the apartment when I arrived, and I decided it was the perfect size for preparing my morning coffee—nice and strong with a splash of milk.

At breakfast time, when I lift the cup to drink, I see the once-golden line that runs along the rim. It is very worn away; only the part above the handle still shines. I think about all the mornings I’ve made the gesture of lifting the cup to have my coffee while half-asleep; day by day, my lips have worn away the shiny pigment. Little by little, I have made this cup my own.

This mug is something Ryo brought from his parents' home when he moved into our apartment. It is a small porcelain mug made in Japan.
On the bottom, "Adam & Eve" is written in elegant gold lettering. Flowers and fruits dance around the piece.

It is not my preferred style, but since it was already in the apartment, I decided it was the perfect size for my morning coffee, which I drink quite strong with a dash of milk.

At breakfast, when I reach for the mug to take a drink, I see the once-golden line tracing the rim. It has faded significantly, and only the part above the handle still gleams. Reflecting on all the mornings I have lifted this cup to have my coffee while still half-asleep, I realize my lips have gradually worn away the lustrous pigment day by day. Little by little, I have made this cup my own.
