Hello! We are Anna and Ryo from Pottery Tocoton.
We are pleased to announce that Pottery Tocoton (Tocoton LLC) has been certified under Ikuno Ward's "Sustainable Community Development Activity Support Project."

The Sustainable Community Development Activity Support Project is designed to support community-building activities undertaken by diverse entities (private businesses, NPOs, universities, civic groups, etc.) based on the current situation and challenges of Ikuno Ward, and to promote the creation of a local society through diverse collaborations. (From the Ikuno Ward Office website)

The current situations and challenges of Ikuno Ward include:
a large number of vacant houses, a declining birthrate and aging population, the employment and networking of foreign residents, and efforts toward a diverse society.

When I heard this, a lightbulb went off.
"Pottery Tocoton has all of that!" I thought.

Pottery Tocoton is a pottery studio founded by a foreign (Spanish-Catalan) ceramic artist and a FtM "kote-kote" (quintessential) Osaka Web designer. We offer pottery experiences and classes to people from both Japan and abroad in Spanish, English, Catalan, and Japanese. What’s more, we are located in a 101-year-old traditional folk house (kominka).

Wow, we really do hit every point. It’s a straight flush...! (lol)

So, after document screening and a presentation at the Ward Office, we were successfully certified!

You can currently check the results and other details on the Ikuno Ward Office website, but we would like to share the evaluation of Tocoton LLC here.

3. Tocoton LLC

(1) Project Name: Pottery Tocoton

(2) Organization Name: Tocoton LLC

(3) Representative: Ryo Tsunomoto

(4) Business Description:

Through pottery taught by a Spanish ceramic artist and an Osaka-born FtM designer in a 100-year-old traditional house in Ikuno Ward, they are working to expand cross-cultural and genderless interaction among people from both Japan and abroad.

(5) Evaluation/Opinions from the Selection Committee

  • We highly value the activities that incorporate a global perspective while considering the local resources and characteristics of Ikuno Ward.
  • The pottery experiences and classes play a significant role as a place for cross-cultural and genderless interaction.
  • We hope they will fully utilize their web design skills and individual strengths as their primary business to create an advanced case study that successfully mixes "Web x Pottery x Language."
  • Once the COVID-19 pandemic settles and inbound demand returns, we would like them to promote their activities in Ikuno Ward both domestically and internationally.

What a wonderful list of comments.
It's perfect.

A pottery studio starting various things from a quintessentially Osaka traditional house in Ikuno Ward and connecting with the world.
As a duo of a globally active ceramic artist and an Osaka merchant, we will continue to reach out worldwide and genderlessly, while also involving everyone here in Japan.

If you would like to experience pottery in Spanish, Catalan, English, or Japanese (Osaka dialect), or if you’d like to purchase works from our studio, please come and visit us!
