Casa Tocoton: 大阪での芸術・文化体験

Casa Tocoton: Cultural experiences in Osaka

Welcome everyone to a new blog post!

This time we have great news to share with you: this year we are opening a new space, right next to the pottery workshop, called Casa Tocoton!

We’ve been working for a few months now to make this project a reality, renovating the space and looking for collaborators. Casa Tocoton is a place where people can gather and create artistic and cultural experiences. Although most of them will be related to Japan, there will also be workshops of other types.

We also want this new space to serve as a place to bring together the people from the Ikuno neighbourhood, whether to participate in a workshop or share something related to the community.

Casa means ‘home’ in Catalan, Anna’s mother tongue, and we want you to feel at home when you visit us, whether you are locals or travellers.

We’re very excited about this new project, which feels like the sister of the pottery studio. In case you’re wondering, the studio will continue to operate, as always, with Anna organizing workshops and making pieces to sell in various shops. The activities at Casa Tocoton will be led by professionals and experienced individuals who collaborate with us and also want to pass on their knowledge and share art and culture.

We’ve created an Instagram profile and a website for this new space. On Instagram, we will be posting information related to Casa Tocoton (workshops, classes, news, and daily updates), and on the website, you’ll find all the information related to the permanent workshops we offer. In this post, you can also see the logo we’ve created, and we’d like to explain its meaning.

Casa Tocoton means home (casa) and doing something with all your energy until the very end, with the intention of achieving the best possible result (tocoton). The name comes from our desire to create a place where people can gather to enjoy artistic and cultural experiences, and we believe that calling this space home is one of the best ways to make you feel comfortable and at ease, as if you were at home.

As for the logo and the typography of the space’s name, we wanted to emphasize the fact that we, Ryo and Anna, come from different cultures (Japan and Catalonia), and we sought to express this point of contact between our worlds by creating a Japanese-style emblem and writing the name of the space using the alphabet used in Romance languages.

The emblem you see in the logo is a blend of the family crests of Ryo’s mother and father. Casa Tocoton would not be possible without their financial support, and we will be eternally grateful to them for believing in us from the very beginning.

Welcome to Casa Tocoton!
